The Wii (pronounced as the pronoun "we," is a video game console released by Nintendo. The console was previously known by its project code name of Revolution, and is the successor to the Nintendo GameCube. Although Nintendo states that its console targets a broader demographic than that of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3, as part of the seventh generation of gaming consoles it competes with the other two on some levels.

A distinguishing feature of the console is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and can detect motion and rotation in three dimensions. Notable among the console's internal features is WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the Internet while consuming very little electrical power.

Nintendo first mentioned the console in the 2004 E3 press conference and later unveiled the system at the 2005 E3. Satoru Iwata revealed a prototype of the controller at the September 2005 Tokyo Game Show. In the 2006 E3, it won the first of several awards. By December 8, 2006, the console completed its launch in three key markets.

Bowling is one of our favorites and the system even picks up when you move across your body or twist the controller a bit and curves the ball. You can give the virtual ball a hard throw by moving your arm faster through the air and it really is like you are there at the bowling alley. Even my mother-in-law who uses a cane was up and bowling and already talking about buying one for her house. She actually almost bowled a 200 too.

Bowling, tennis, golf, boxing, and baseball are included in Wii Sports. There are also some very fun training excercises for each sport that help you perfect your movements. The graphics are not anything special, but the games are really designed to demonstrate the wireless controller functionality and so far no one who has played the games has even mentioned the weak graphics.

We also have MonkeyBall Blitz and the graphics are much better in that game. The Wii is great fun for the whole family and gets people up and off the couch too. It is our favorite gift this year and if you can find one I highly recommend it.

Wii Remote Wrist Strap Replacement Information
Nintendo is offering to replace the original version of the wrist straps for the Wii Remote with a newer version. We have received some reports that when consumers swing the Wii Remote with the original version of the wrist-strap using excessive force and accidentally let go, the cord connecting the controller to the wrist strap can break, potentially causing the Wii Remote to strike bystanders or objects. Because Wii consoles shipped starting in early December already utilized the newer version of the strap, you will need to determine which version of the strap you have before ordering a replacement.
